appearance : Although Rhaen may be young in terms of age, he has always looked older, and is far more mature than others his age. The most outstanding of his features is bound to be his hair, which is pure shocking white in colour, and is cropped close to his head. Coupled with his amber eyes, which turn into an intense red when he's agitated or using his powers, he is not your ordinary guy next door. Although he may not be very tall, his body shape makes him look larger and more intimidating than he really is. His broad shoulders means he can carry off many types of clothing that are typically for males.
When on the road, he likes to wear his big hooded black cloak on his back, but other than that, you will find him in suitably comfortable clothes, which blend in to the crowd when he wishes to. He does prefer the darker colours, although he is not very fair, and this makes him look moodier than he really is. Being a mage who doesn't have any qualms using his powers for menial tasks like creating clothing, he prefers to create local clothing rather than steal it off someone. A point to note is that he wears two silver rings on his left fourth finger.
When he knows that he is going to be using his powers, he tends to dress in pants and a long-sleeved shirt, and have his black cloak off his back. But when he reckons it will be more of a combat fighting situation he would wear something he is truly comfortable in, which would more likely than not be a pair of loose jeans and a t-shirt.
history : Rhaen Sy'lik was born to a long lineage of powerful and secretive mages. He was one of the strongest human mages in his line, and stronger than most of the mages in his age, so much so that he could not be taught or even guided, because his progress was so rapid he far outstripped everyone else of seniority. So the seniors left him to himself, which was a bad decision. He became extremely influenced by rumours of an outside world, and he left his colony. At this time he was young and easily influenced, and the great war had started between the deceiver Morgan and his former companions. Recruited by Morgan, he was told a twisted version of the truth, and was slowly turned to the evil side, unscrupulously concocting intelligent plans, turning into Morgan's general per se.
What began as a plan to steal the ancient magic of the High Elves, one of the last few races that stood up against Morgan's reign, became the start of the great war of the lesser races, as Rhaen used the affections of the Princess of the High Elves to his own advantage, and ended up murdering the Princess' twin sister, incurring the wrath of the great Dark Elf warrior, Myst. After an eventful fight against Myst and his other minions, Rhaen killed Myst, but was sorely wounded, and retired into the mountains to recuperate. It was during this time when he realised his own affections for the Princess were real, and decided to secretly marry the Princess, if she agreed to it. With an elaborate plan in which he tricked Morgan that the Princess was switching sides, and the Princess tricked the rebellion into thinking Rhaen was becoming their spy, the two finally got married, but was soon separated, as the fighting intensified. Finally, they both perished together, after a long drawn out battle against each other at the place they first met.
Reborn into the world Earth, a direct descendant from a certain Aoi Hikegami, he showed tremendous skills at swordfighting and thus his name was changed from Yuke to Aoi, the only one in his family to earn that honour. Unfortunately, an incident when he was ten caused his dormant powers to awaken, with disastrous results. His parents were killed in a fire that he had started, and with this emotional scar in his past, he slowly grew up under his grandmother's care to become a writer, trying to live a normal life in modern day Japan. Normal, until the day a winged elf swooped into his life and demanded he pay for her sister's life... It seemed that many of the other inhabitants of his previous home had been reborn into his world, and after clearing things up with the Princess, who was now called Bliss, he started to regain memories of his other life, whilst rekindling the love he had felt for Bliss. Joined by some of their old friends from the other world, they started their own vigilante operation, in order to try and help the world in some way with their powers.
It was some time after all this has happened when suddenly, yet another being from another world came to visit them. Claiming to be a descendent of Bliss's nephew, who had defeated Morgan and rebuilt his homeland, she came to appeal to the two to return to their land, now called Shy'ield, in order to prevent catastrophe from occurring again. But something happened when they were being warded to Shy'ield: Bliss and he were separated, and their memories of why they had arrived onto this strange planet dislodged. Now all he can do is try to find his wife and find the truth to what has happened.
personality : Rhaen is a queer mix from both his previous life and his present life. Usually quiet and reticent, he is able to open up to people who he cares about a lot, people that are as close as family to him. But this is uncommon. He is more likely to be sarcastic and even caustic at times, but exceedingly polite to women, though he might be scheming against them. He angers easily, though he tries to control himself. But he is not without his good qualities: loyal to a fault, protective of those he loves, intelligent and sometimes too cunning. He has a strong sense of what's right and what's wrong, but sometimes he will cross that line himself.
weapons : He carries many weapons, only one of which is visible: his sword by his side. The sword is chinese in nature, but japanese made, and it is modelled after the blade of his ancestor. For those who know it, it is a tsurugi, a straight blade. The other weapons he carries are assassin blades, also japanese made, which he hides on his body for protection. These range from throwing knives to butterfly blades to short daggers. As can be seen, Rhaen enjoys a healthy obsession with fighting.
But his real weapon are his powers. A gifted human mage from young in his previous life, Rhaen has regained those powers almost completely, but he has yet to practise all of them, therefore even though technically he is well-skilled, he does not use his magic very often, preferring instead the security of metal. His primary ability and innate element is fire, which means his spells are usually fire-based in nature.
likes : A good fight, his black cloak, appearing mysterious, japanese culture, playing with his spells. dislikes : People who pick on someone weaker than themselves, weak people who don't do anything to help themselves, hurt people who refuse to get help from others, and people with no honour or pride.

Rhaen Sy'lik was created by Hsin, my ex-boyfriend, back when we were writing a Round Robin fantasy story. That round robin was never finished, and Rhaen as a character was just left hanging. By this time he was permanently attached to my character, Bliss Sy'lik, and so for years I tried my best to write a sequel to the round robin using these two characters. Soon, Rhaen became more than just the love interest of Bliss. I expanded on his past, his present and his future, and created a different personality for him when he was reborn. In this way, slowly Rhaen belonged more to me than to Hsin, except for the basic premise. My version of Rhaen, I expect, is vastly different from the version Hsin had in mind when he first started writing Rhaen.
